KINGSTON, Jamaica – The review of the nine-race card today (June 19) was highlighted by the victory of Eagle One in the feature Eros Trophy (seven furlongs).

HORSES

There is no doubt that this foreigner trained by Jason DaCosta has taken a progressive turn for the better, winning three of his last five races.

Today Eagle One, showed marked improvement, racing at the Open Allowance level for the first time, and was skilfully handled by Dick Cardenas who is forging a formidable combination with DaCosta.

DaCosta must have been pleased with the outcome of the Eros as his other trainee King Arthur put in a good shift finishing second to make it a one-two result for the trainer and also the owner Carlton Watson.

Father Patrick, the early leader ran his heart out but faltered in the straight while the country’s top-rated horse Oneofakind felt the pinch of the overburdening weight allotment of 59.0 kgs which forced his trainer champion Anthony Nunes to call on apprentice Romario Spencer to slip weight to enhance Oneofakind chances of winning.

Oneofakind was slowly out, then the inexperienced Spencer rushed him and that brought a quick end to Oneofakind in the Eros.

There were two other winners on the day which came to the attention of THE QUICK GALLOPER.

First-timer Great Britt, a three-year-old roan filly by Traditional – Crucial Cat trained by Carl Anderson demonstrated true grit and determination in defeating Rocket Lily by a neck at five furlongs round. A good start by the filly and her progress will be watched closely.

One Don, a US importee, trained by Gary Subratie after three disappointing runs finally turned up for action and in a bold performance rallied in the last furlong to better the well-experienced Hoist The Mast.

Hopefully, this is the turning point for One Don.

THE JOCKEYS

While there were three riders (Oshane Nugent, Jordan Barrett, and Chris Mamdeen), who doubled up on the day, the major news as far as THE QUICK GALLOPER is concerned is that the two co-champion jockeys Dane nelson and Anthony Thomas were both winless.

THE TRAINERS

The leading trainer with two winners; Dejae’s Boy in the first and Ajita in the nightcap was Ian Parsard.

Parsard at this stage in the racing year has saddled 20 winners to be fourth in the trainers’ race. The Parsard barn is ticking round the clock and the winners are pouring out raceday after raceday.
