KINGSTON, Jamaica - The saddle ability of jockey Dane Dawkins came to the fore once again on this occasion while partnering the Gary Subratie-trained D Head Cornerstone. D Head Cornerstone earned his first victory in the ninth race on Saturday, June 18, 2022. The ninth was a three-year-old maiden call going a mile.
The calmness of Dawkins was evident during the development of the contest as he kept D Head Cornerstone off the early pace set by leader Manaco (Tevin Foster).
Manaco carried the field along the backstretch, with Dawkins judiciously biding his time on D Head Cornerstone.
Turing into the straight it was still Manaco setting the splits as Dawkins with precision moved D Head Cornerstone into a challenging position.
Currently enjoying a purple patch when the the reins are in his hands, Dawkins got D Head Cornerstone into acceleration mode and they quickly went by Manaco. That was not the end, as Monsieur Blue emerged from the clouds with a strong run that earned him second place. Manaco finished third.
