RACE 10 TYPE: Three-year-olds and upwards Graded Stakes/Open Allowance – The Chairman’s Trophy
RACE DISTANCE: 7 ½ furlongs
SPLITS: 23.4 x 46.1 x 1:11.0 FINAL TIME: 1:32.2
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Toona Ciliata made it two in a row in 2021 from two starts with a truly inspirational run to win the Caymanas Saturday tenth – the Chairman’s Trophy.
Toona Ciliata with Dane Nelson in the saddle broke well and was with the early leaders Superluminal and Roy Rogers. The likes of Sentient, Horse of the Year Nipster, Duke and Father Patrick were behind.
With a relatively slow pace, Toona Ciliata trained by Anthony Nunes used his strong tactical speed and shot to the front with three and a half furlongs to go - entering the final two furlongs with the lead. Galloping like the champion he is and while benefitting from a drop in the handicaps weights, Toona Ciliata was resolute as ever as Sentient (Anthony Nunes) shot through and was just left out by three-parts of a length behind when the winning post intervened. Crimson was third, making it a second, third and fourth place finish for trainer Gary Subratie.
Nipster (Robert Halledeen) who was never in the race finishing way behind in sixth place.
