BY THE QUICK GALLOPER

The recap of the 11-race card today at Caymanas Park starts with the betting side of racing, notwithstanding the brilliant performance by Toona Ciliata in the Chairman’s Trophy.

 MILLIONAIRES

Two punters left the race track with the official title of millionaires.

The first of these millionaires came after the running of the sixth race which closed out the Reggae-6 exotic wager.

One punter with one ticket with two winning combinations, which was bought at the Offtrack Betting Parlour in Junction, St Elizabeth is now $9,117,936 richer than when he/she started the day. Each winning combination was worth $4,558,968.

Then after the 11th and final, one winner of the Twilight 6 emerged with a pay-out of $3,589, 472. That winning ticket was bought at the track itself.

THE QUICK GALLOPER congratulates these millionaires for spotting some long odds winners. WELL, DONE!

JOCKEY ANTHONY THOMAS

Joint champion jockey Anthony Thomas was down to ride 10 horses today out of the 11 races. He ended-up riding eight following the late scratch of Wreckless Diamond in the second and Storm Born in the fifth.

From those actual eight rides, Thomas finished second six times without riding a winner. His second-place finishes were as follows: Elitist (1st), Sweet Surprise (3rd), Lure of Lucy (7th), Green Gold Rush (8th), Sir John (9th), and Sentient (10th).

 OWNERS/TRAINERS/BREEDERS

There were three occasions when races today were won by horses with the same owner/trainer/ and breeder.

This rather peculiar phenomenon started in the first race with Helicopter, owned, trained, and bred by Gordon Lewis.

Helicopter was followed in the second contest by Lorenzo Robinson who is the owner, trainer, and breeder of winner Sniper Man.

This trifecta was closed in the ninth by T Brady, owned, trained, and bred by Carl Anderson.

TOONA CILIATA REINSTATES HIMSELF AS THE TOP RATED

It was blistering. It was devastating. It was truly wonderful.

Those are just some of the adjectives THE QUICK GALLOPER can find to describe the victory of Toona Ciliata in the Chairman’s Trophy (7 ½ furlongs).

The versatility of this horse named Toona Ciliata is amazing as with Dane Nelson in the saddle, he demonstrated yet again, that he can win from in front or by coming from off the pace. Today he went to the lead after four furlongs and was resolute in his gallop to thwart the late surge of Sentient.

Horse of the Year Nipster who was touted as Toona Ciliata’s main protagonist was nowhere on the premises. It was obvious from the performance of Nipster that he needed the run. Nipster will return.

HORSE/S TO WATCH

The victory by T Brady in a three-year-old Maiden Special Weight at seven furlongs should be noted and this Silent Valor–Burning Clearance bay colt should be watched. T Brady won against a weak field, yes, but the authority of the win makes him a horse to watch and follow.

JOCKEY JAVANIEL PATTERSON

This young rider deserves commendation. He started his career some five years ago in good nick, then he fell away and could not find the winners’ enclosure.

Patterson since this year has renewed his efforts which THE QUICK GALLOPER hopes will continue for a long time.

Patterson rode one winner today No Work Permit. His tally for the year now stands at 13.
