KINGSTON, Jamaica - The always popular former three-time champion jockey Dane Nelson dubbed the “Warrior Chief” by his legion of local fans, returned to local race-riding after another sojourn in Canada…and he did so with an almighty bang.

Nelson riding on the local track for the first time since April of this year added five more wins to his tally with another compelling display in the saddle.

Nelson’s first winner came in the opening event race when he had little to do on Msmyrtlerichiegirl for trainer Patrick Lynch.

The “Warrior Chief” was then aided in his winning quest, when after finishing second behind Eroy on Royal Approach, the on-duty stewards of the race meeting lowered the colours of Eroy, to make it win number two for Nelson.

The third winner for the returning champion was achieved in the fifth event on Classy Vishala for trainer David Powell.

Then in the ninth of 11 races, Nelson produced a vintage come-from-behind effort on the Anthony Nunes-trained Princess Ava.

Racing in a Restricted Stakes contest over 1,300 metres, Nelson was at the back of the field of 11 for most of the way on Princess Ava.

Then even after going wide, the strength of Nelson was brought to the fore as he pumped the bay filly who responded by accelerating with gusto to nip Cryptocurrency in the glass.

The five-timer was sealed in the 10th, as Nelson had a comfortable time on another Nunes trainee, Legality.

At the end of it all, Nelson was his usual smiling self.

“Good to be back home and riding here again.

“Five winners, that is a great start, so let’s hope this trend continues,” he said.
