Apprentice jockey Tajay Suckoo is poised to make his first competitive appearance since early May (2025), having been named on the Overnight for the Saturday, October 25 race meet, following an extended recovery period.
The injury occurred during a morning exercise session in May, when Suckoo was aboard a two-year-old nearing the six-furlong marker. His mount became startled by the sight of another horse lying on the track and veered sharply toward the inside rail, dislodging Suckoo in the process.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Suckoo acknowledged the physical toll but remained philosophical. “Yes, it was painful, very painful. The pain eased somewhat after treatment and painkillers. As jockeys, we know these things can happen, and we just have to deal with them.”
Cleared by medical professionals to resume exercise riding last week, Suckoo has now been granted approval to compete.
According to the Overnight entries, he is booked for three mounts: Noble Sovereign for trainer Donovan Clarke, Uncaptured Empress for trainer Anthony Nunes, and Oil Machine for trainer Phillip Elliott.
