The Supreme Ventures Limited Anniversary (SVL) Trophy has been extended from 5 ½ furlongs to a mile. It is an Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and older horses. The reappearance of Supernatural Power under new connections adds intrigue. Six runners are declared, and here’s the assessment in draw order:
1 – DON KWESI
Currently the standout among local-breds, arriving off three consecutive wins at varying distances from 5 ½ furlongs to nine furlongs and 25 yards. His adaptability is proven, but this is a stern test against imports. He races without blinkers but with a tongue tie. While he will represent the local stock admirably, victory looks unlikely.
2 – SUPERNATURAL POWER (USA)
Now trained by Adrian Prince, who immediately applies the figure 8. A proven class performer, she benefits from the handicap system by receiving weight from Don Kwesi and Barnaby. She dominated this same mile on April 25, winning by 11 lengths in 1:35.3, and was runner-up in the record-setting track record in the Ian Levy Cup before that. With seven wins already from 13 starts, she is the one to beat.
3 – SENSATIONAL SOUL
A local-bred with little chance against the imports. Unlikely to feature prominently.
4 – NAUTICAL STAR (USA)
Effective at Overnight Allowance, where he has secured two of his three wins. However, he has struggled when stepping into higher grades, and that pattern is expected to continue here.
5 – SHEER DELIGHT (USA)
Not competitive at this level. Can be safely ruled out.
6 – BARNABY (USA) Has two wins from five starts this season. Though fifth last time behind Funcaandun, the mile is his preferred trip. He will relish the distance and could capitalize if the leading pair falter. A legitimate outsider with potential to surprise.
