Strong Mind Gets The Edge

The eighth race on Saturday, September 27, 2025, will be run in honour of the outstanding foreign bred thoroughbred RonRon.

The RonRon Trophy is for locally bred three and four-year-olds – non-winners of four, and also the same age group for foreign bred horses, non-winners of three races.

Eighth horses are entered to compete over six furlongs.

The Quick Galloper’s take on the possible outcome is share with readers.

1 – LOCKDOWN

Has failed to build on the momentum of his second win on July 21. Lockdown hasn’t tackled a sprint trip in recent outings, which makes this assignment a testing one.

2 – BOWMORE

Has shown flashes of speed but won’t be able to dictate terms freely here. This overseas runner may need to bide his time for a more favourable setup.

3 – RILEY J

Scored her second win on July 13 but was uncompetitive in the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks. Though returning to a more suitable distance, Riley J is unlikely to feature prominently.

4 – MIGHTY GULLY

A filly deserving of more recognition. With three wins from eleven starts, she’s been trading blows with Miss MoneyPenny, beaten on August 30, then reversing the result on September 13. Her tendency to fade late could be exposed by the added half-furlong of the RonRon.

5 – STRONG MIND

Finally broke through 21 days ago with a determined come-from-behind win over 5½ furlongs. The extra distance should suit, and with a top apprentice reducing the weight by two kilogrammes, Strong Mind holds a strong hand. Hard to look past.

6 – AMERICAN AVIATOR

Has disappointed in three of four starts. This foreigner must show marked improvement to be competitive.

7 – MISS MONEYPENNY

After two early wins, she’s beginning to deliver on her potential. Narrowly beaten by Mighty Gully on September 13, Miss MoneyPenny has a chance to reverse that result if her upward trajectory continues.

8 – DUTCHESS

Still adjusting to this level. Needs more time and experience.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT

Strong Mind arrives in peak form and benefits from favourable conditions, making him the standout contender. Miss MoneyPenny and Mighty Gully remain closely matched, but both must prove they can handle the added distance. The rest appears to be outclassed.
