The seventh race of 10 on Saturday, September 19, is likely to be a speedster paradise.
The five furlongs round event has attracted five starters.
The Quick Galloper’s take on the possible outcome is analysed below for the benefit of readers.
1 – DESERT OF MALIBU
The primary contender in the field. Desert of Malibu enters this contest attempting to rebound from an off-key eighth-place run on August 1 over 5 ½ furlongs. Prior to that effort, she produced a sharp performance on July 18, edging out California Crown in the Hall of Fame Stakes over 6 furlongs in a crisp 1:10.2. Her primary advantage lies in her tactical flexibility, capable of stalking right off the lead or sitting in mid-pack before improving in the stretch. Morning workouts indicate she remains in good physical condition.
2 – CALIFORNIA CROWN
The pacesetter and chief threat. California Crown possesses the sharpest early foot in the line-up and will almost certainly dictate the tempo from the gate. He was narrowly denied on the line by Desert of Malibu over 6 furlongs on July 18; cutting back in distance today is just right, his early acceleration could allow him to steal an uncontested lead and prove difficult to run down.
3 – LINGUIST
Faces a tough test against these and appears out of her depth in this speed contest.
4 – ANOTHER ONE
Another of the entrants blessed with speed. Another One can also be rated, which seems to be the best option. Ideally, Another One should be sitting comfortably in third or fourth then put in an effort in the straight. Has to be judiciously ridden.
5 – RAINSVILLE
In strong form following a solid runner-up performance behind Dothraki over 5 ½ furlongs on August 1. Rainsville holds his form well and should deliver another competitive effort against this group. Ideally poised as Rainsville can strike especially if the speedsters fold inside the final two furlongs.
