KINGSTON, Jamaica – The eighth race on Saturday, May 20, 2023, honours the legacy of former Derby winner, and two-times winner of the Diamond Mile, Seeking My Dream

The Seeking My Dream Trophy is an Open Allowance call going seven and a half furlongs in which six horses are entered.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the six starters is published below.

1 – UNRULY BOSS – did well on May 6, when finishing third in the Lady Geeta Trophy (six furlongs) behind She’s My Destiny and Madelyn’s Sunshine. Unruly Boss had not raced longer that 6 ½ furlongs in his last eight starting efforts, making the 7 ½ furlongs in the Seeking My Dream a bit daunting.

2 – CALCULUS – carries the weight in this trophy event, plus he is racing at a distance, a tad short for him to be truly at his best. Calculus will have to rely on the pace coming back to him.

3 – MONEY MONSTER - moves up from Overnight Allowance to compete here. His best efforts are usually by going to the lead which will be difficult, especially with the likes of Runaway Algo and company around. Will have to wait.

4 – SISTREN TREASURE – this foreign filly was not disgraced in her first attempt in this grade, finishing sixth, eleven lengths behind I Am Fred. Will have to wait some more to be fully effective.

5- RUNAWAY ALGO – just failed to win the Saint Cecelia (6 ½ furlongs) on April 8, finishing second behind the much-improved foreigner I Am Fred. Now he is the perfect spot, as the distance is right, and with his controlled speed, he can lead, or stay close enough to the leader before pouncing when ready. In addition, Runaway Algo has been lighting up the track in the mornings.

6 – BLUE VINYL – is now two from two in 2023. He has twice demolished Overnight and has now taken his rightful position in the class above. This run in the Seeking My Dream is Blue Vinyl’s most competitive, since his days as a three-year-old, and although he is getting weight from his two main rivals, he will have to put every hoof right to win this one.
