Trainer Alphanso Harris shared in a post-race interview with Quickgallopja.com that the realization of his first victory with Sicario did not fully set in until a day after the race on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
Sicario Man, with Aaron Chatrie riding, claimed his first win in a five-year-old and up maiden call going six furlongs, while Medal Award with Tevin Foster finished in second place, and Double The Cash, ridden by Jawani Forbes, came in third.
“Winning my first race, after such a long wait, more than a year and a half was a good occasion for me, but the feeling of excitement did not take place until I got up the next morning.
“Remember, I have visited the winners’ enclosure many times before when I worked with trainer Carl Anderson, so it was not a usual feeling. The next morning, however, it was a completely different situation.
“I then realized that I was a winner, and that feeling was truly invigorating,” Harris expressed.
The newly successful trainer also reflected on his journey, having graduated from the Trainers' School in 2023.
“It has been difficult, but I am still trying hard. I only have one horse, Sicario Man, who I also own, in my care at this time,” said Harris, who also balances his work as a car mechanic.
