KINGSTON, Jamaica - The second race on Saturday, March 23, 2024, is a three-year-old maiden call in which eight horses are entered going 6 furlongs.

In this event, seven of the starters are foreign bred, which is unusual as foreigners generally enter the racing fray in the non-winners of two category.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment is published below.

1 - TRAIN OF THOUGHT is a dark bay filly (USA May 4) by Mor Spirit out of Equitable, trained by Anthony Nunes with Raddesh in the saddle. Note that Train Of Thought races with the visor on. Makes a return after a break of 84 days. Progressing well in the mornings but may need the run to find her best form. A place on the board is the likely outcome for Train Of Thought.

2 - CLEOPATRA QUEEN is a bay filly (USA March 16) by St Patrick’s Day out of Caribbean Queen, trained by Alford Brown with Oneil Mullings holding the reins. Note that Cleopatra Queen races with Figure 8 off and first-time Lasix. Cleopatra Queen has not shown much in her three starts to date. Not better is on the cards on Saturday.

3 - CHOCOMO is a bay colt (USA January 26) by Backtalk out of Chocolate Chippi, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen riding. Morning observers are reporting that this foreign colt is of good ability based on his gallops thus far. A worthy effort is anticipated from Chocomo.

4 - CHESNEY is a chestnut filly (USA April 14) by Solomini out of El Coyote, trained by Steven Todd with Youville Pinnock aboard. Still has a lot of work to do to before winning can be considered.

5 - POPE’S LADY is a bay filly (USA February 8) by Catholic Boy out of Cheers To That, trained by Steven Todd with Paul Francis riding. Note that Pope’s Lady races with the blinkers off and the visor on. Finished third, second time out at five furlongs round. Coming along well, but is not ready as yet.

6 - D BAY MACHINE is a chestnut colt (March 3) by Tapilu out of Lady Elaine, trained by Jason DaCosta with Josue Osorio aboard. Note that D Bay Machine races with first-time Lasix. The only locally bred in this line-up. D Bay Machine is making up numbers.

7 - RICHES TO RAGS is a chestnut filly (USA April 21) by Union Rags out of Place Des Vosges, trained by Philip Feanny with Tevin Foster riding. Note that Riches To Rags races with the visor off and tongue off. Riches To Rags has hit the board in all of her four starts. She is advancing in the mornings and is a major contender in this one.

8 - PRETTY CAROLINE is a four-year-old bay filly (USA) by Flintshire out of Caroline Victoria, trained by Patrick Lynch with Matthew Bennett aboard. Note that Pretty Caroline races with the tongue tie on and the figure 8 off. Pretty Caroline is the only four-year-old in this contest. She has raced all 14 times with anything to show for her efforts.
