KINGSTON, Jamaica - Three-year-old dark bay filly Select Me easily obliged as the favourite in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-old and upwards (maidens) at seven furlongs on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

Select Me raced among the backmarkers down the backstretch while stablemate Potential (Jerome Innis) headed the field ahead of Bigmanbiden (Phillip Parchment), Dancing With A Cat (Richard Henry), and Cotterwood Kathy (Oneil Mullings).

Select Me, owned and trained by Patrick Lynch, recovered strongly, going down into fourth place heading into the half-mile (800m) turn as Bigmanbiden took over ahead of Potential and Cotterwood Kathy.

Jungle Boogie (Matthew Bennett) surrounded runners and hit the front full of running in the stretch, looking the winner. However, inside the last furlong (200m) jockey Anthony Thomas asked his mount for a run, and Select Me reacted quickly with a surge, winning by a length and a half at the wire.

Jungle Boogie finished in second place, some 10½ lengths ahead of Potential who finished in third. The final time for the race was 1:31.2 (24.2 x 48.4 x 1:15.4).
