KINGSTON, Jamaica – After more that $6 million were wagered in the Reggae-6 which is carrying a single winner bonus of over $5 million, punters got off to a safe start as the 8-5 choice Lala Diva took the Caymanas Wednesday first as the 8-5 favourite.
It was a mad rush for the lead involving three horses Nuclear Thunder (Chris Mamdeen), Mr Ambassador (Abigail Able) and Lala Diva (Paul Francis) in this five and a half furlong Optional Claiming event ($550,000 - $500,000).
Turning for home the race developed into a duel between Mr Ambassador on the outside and Lala Diva. With a furlong to go Francis and Lala Diva started to pull away but then out of the clouds emerged El Gringo (Andre Powell) but somehow Lala Diva was able to hold on by a nose. Third was City Counsel (Samantha Fletcher).
