Ryan Reid – New Chairman Of Jamaica Racing Commission

Chairman of the First Rock Group of companies, Ryan Reid has been appointed as the new chairman of the regulatory arm of horse racing, the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC).

Reid replaces noted horseman, Clovis Metcalfe, who served as JRC chairman for eight years.

Like Metcalfe, Reid is also the chairman of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission, and the Casino Gaming Commission.

The appointment of Reid as JRC chairman was made by the Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Fayval Williams, the portfolio minister responsible for horse racing in Jamaica.

The other members of the JRC board of commissioners are; deputy chairman - Derrick Smith, Charles Heholt, Richard Foster, Anna Harry, and Andrea Lyle. Smith a former government minister and Heholt are the surviving members of the previous JRC board of commissioners.

Reid holds various degrees in financial management from several universities including the University of the West Indies, (Mona), the University of Wales, Harvard Business School, and The Wharton School.

Deputy chairman Smith, is a well-known owner of racehorses for over 50 years. He celebrated his second victory in the Jamaica Derby and his first in the Jamaica St Leger, earlier this year (2025) with I Dream Again.
