KINGSTON, Jamaica - The long wait is over as the champion local bred two-year-old of 2018, Run Thatcher Run starts his much-anticipated quest for glory in the Classic races tomorrow. The first Classic event for colts and geldings only, the 2000 Guineas, will be run on Sunday, April 14.
Run Thatcher Run is pitted in tomorrow’s third race an Optional Claiming event as well as a non-winners of three for three-year-olds. This is the first occasion that Run Thatcher run will be racing against older horses.
Trained by champion conditioner Wayne DaCosta, Run Thatcher late entry into the Classic fray was due in part to an injury issue which hampered his progress.
At this time, it does not appear that Run Thatcher Run – a half brother to champion filly She’s A Maneater - is fully where his trainer wants him to be with many analysts of the view that this chestnut colt will be using this race as just another exercise gallop en route to the 2000 Guineas.
That being said Run Thatcher Run has enough talent and class as witnessed when he defeated the much-touted Supreme Soul on Boxing Day of last year in the one mile, Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes to take home this six-furlong engagement.
A lot will be revealed on the morrow as to the Classic claims of Run Thatcher Run.
Of the other nine runners competing against Run Thatcher Run, the two who should offer the fiercest competition are Crucial Appeal and American Invader.
