KINGSTON, Jamaica – The seventh race on St Leger Day pays tribute to Royal Dad, the first horse to win the Triple Crown at Caymanas Park.

The Royal Dad Trophy is a two-turn test over nine furlongs and 25 yards, open to horses at the Overnight Allowance level.

Six runners are entered, and here’s the Quick Galloper’s take:

1 – PROVIDENT: Has rapidly climbed the ranks since returning on May 10 as a non-winner of two. Now faces a tougher test in Overnight Allowance and must adjust to the higher level of competition.

2 – SUPER ALEX: A seasoned campaigner at this level, but his performances have been underwhelming. With little improvement shown, Super Alex is likely to be left behind again.

3 – RAINSVILLE: Last visited the winner’s enclosure on October 13, 2024. Since then, he’s placed in four of seven starts. Rainsville thrives over longer distances and should relish the two-turn trip.

4 – JAMES: Fresh off a claiming win just a week ago, James returns to Overnight Allowance where he has struggled in the past. Needs to prove he belongs at this level.

5 – BLUE VINYL: Proven at this class and competitive even higher up. Though he’s had health concerns, a fit Blue Vinyl should dominate this field with ease.

6 – ATLANTIC CONVOY: Likely to be the pacesetter. If left alone on the lead and allowed to dictate terms, he could be tough to reel in down the stretch.
