KINGSTON, Jamaica - TRAINER Dennis Thwaites might not want to jump the gun too early, but the
in- form conditioner believes his three-year-old chestnut colt Roulette Boss can play a huge role in the upcoming Classic series of races.
This view came after Roulette Boss’s powerful win in a Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upwards (maidens) at 7½ furlongs (1,500m). Roulette Boss, ridden by Paul Francis, produced a late, deep stretch effort to beat rivals by a length and a half in a time of 1:35.1 for the distance on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
Roulette Boss started slowly and raced near the back with She’s Myhedgefund (Roger Hewitt), as stablemates Pigglie Wigglie (Jerome Innis) and Durocell (Samantha Fletcher) set the early pace ahead of Big Guy in TheSky (Dane Dawkins) and Anonymous (Tevin Foster) down the backstretch.
Roulette Boss came into view approaching the half-mile (800m) when he slipped into fourth place as Durocell surged to the front ahead of Anonymous. Hugging the inside rails and cutting the turn entering the straight, Roulette Boss exploded inside the final furlong (200m) to win going away at the wire.
Durocell finished in second place, with Anonymous taking in the third slot after looking threatening in deep stretch. The splits were 24.0 x 48.0 x 1:14.1.
“It was a very good performance from Roulette Boss as he won his second-consecutive race. The win was expected because, after his brilliant workout next to King Arthur the other morning, I knew he had a good chance of winning. His 1:16.1 for six furlongs was good enough, and he came into the race in good shape as well,” Thwaites revealed.
“Yes, we are pointing him towards the Classic series of races. Given his class and talent, I think he will do very well in the Classics,” Thwaites opined.
