The racing fraternity breathed a sigh of relief when news emerged that Raddesh Roman, Jamaica’s reigning champion jockey, had avoided serious injury after a falling from his mount at Caymanas Park on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
Roman was aboard Midnight Galaxy in the second race when the incident unfolded. In a split‑second of misfortune, the champion was unseated, tumbling to the track that also involved fellow riders Demar Williams on Ruby’s Light and Tyrese Anderson (Bubblingbrownsugar).
While Williams and Anderson were quickly assessed and cleared to continue riding, Roman’s condition prompted greater concern. He was stood down for the remainder of the day and transported to hospital for precautionary checks.
The anxious wait for results ended with encouraging news. Following a series of x‑rays and other checks, doctors confirmed that Roman had suffered no broken bones. However, he is nursing pain in his shoulders and has been advised to rest and recover at home.
For Roman to return to the saddle he must first get medical clearance which will then be shared with the operating stewards.
