KINGSTON, Jamaica – At one stage many believed that the career of jockey Phillip Parchment had dissolved into nothingness. He had adjusted to other undertakings, with his visits to track limited to odd occasions.
Then approximately five years ago, the renaissance of the man known to all as ‘Parchy’ under the guidance of the late many times champion trainer Wayne DaCosta started to take shape.
It on the DaCosta-trained Princess Anne that Parchment made a statement to the racing public that he was on the rebound with victory in the Classic Jamaica Oaks.
Another major step in the Parchment rebirth process came in 2020, when he won the most prestigious prize in racing, the blue riband Jamaica Derby on the DaCosta-trained King Arthur.
Since his two Classic wins, Parchment has been pounding out the hours at exercise with the winners coming from time to time.
Parchment crossed another phase in his development on Saturday, June 25, 2022, riding a well-assembled triple.
He started in the Saturday first on Zion for trainer Marlon Anderson.
The double was quick in being achieved, as Duke of Springs rallied to beat Comandante Lunar in the second.
The Saturday (June 25) icing on the Parchment triple cake came in the sixth aboard the Gary Griffiths conditioned Diligent. On Diligent, Parchment was at his swashbuckling best, digging deep into his strength reserves to hold the surge of Anthony Thomas on Thunderstrike.
In 2022, Parchment has ridden 13 winners, with the win on Great Wayne (Sunday, June 26) also included.
So, it was four winners over the Saturday (June 25) and Saturday (June 26) weekend of racing for Parchment.
