The Jamaica Racing Commission has significantly reduced the suspension of jockey Phillip Parchment following a formal appeal heard today, Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Initially handed a 25-race day ban for intimidation and interference during the tenth race on Saturday, August 2, Parchment will now serve a six-day suspension.

The incident occurred while Parchment was aboard WAYNE’SCHERRYLINKS, who the race days stewards determined had affected the progress of rivals LINGUIST and DANKA.  The original penalty was issued by the stewards’ panel, citing dangerous riding that compromised the safety and fairness of the race.

During today’s hearing, the racing commissioners reviewed submissions from the stewards and heard testimony from jockeys Wesley Henry (Riley J), Dick Cardenas (Linguist), and Parchment himself. The president of the Jockeys’ Agents Association, Donovan Wilson also appeared, offering additional context and support.

The commissioners ruled that while interference had occurred, the severity of the original penalty warranted revision from 25 days to six.
