Will At War - Dane Nelson
Will At War - Dane Nelson

RACE ONE – Surprising that after finishing second on last Vampire Rejection with Dane Nelson aboard was allowed to start at 5-2. Even more surprising was that the Vampire Rejection – Saint Michael (2-1) exacta paid $636. The exactas since the take-out amount was lowered has been paying well.

RACE TWO – The smooth development of the talent that is Anthony Thomas again came to the fore as Baby Star took the second without any fuss. Baby Star loves the straight.

RACE THREE – Hot Ice moving up the claiming ladder with Omar Simpson in the saddle made it two straight this time at longer odds. Hot Ice seems to have come to hand and gave a fighting performance. Keep on following.

RACE FOUR – Trainer Gary Subratie out of claiming for a while made a successful re-entry when he saddled Sir Arjun Babu to victory. Sir Arjun Babu swerved all over the place and jockey Chris Mamdeen had to dismount when coming back to the winners’ enclosure. Sir Arjun Babu was claimed after the race.

RACE FIVE – Nothing much to report here except that light weight apprentice Ramon Nepare rode a rare winner on Expeditious.

RACE SIX – Although the time delivered by Will At War was slow, the three-year-old did enough to gather some interest as the Classic aspirants further unfold their talent.

RACE SEVEN – Jockey Dane Nelson completed his triple aboard the Gary Subratie trained Papito in the Caymanas Saturday seventh. While it was the second for Subratie.

Papito is at a stage of rapid development and must be followed as those he beat today are all seasoned at this level but Papito has his issues which the trainer has to deal with on a regular basis.

RACE EIGHT – The recent upgrade in form of the Gary Subratie trained Crimson continued with a majestic victory. He is now in the top class against the likes of Nipster and Toona Ciliata. Of note, the filly England’s Rose tried her luck going longer than 6 ½ furlongs and although leading, lost her way in the final furlong of the one-mile distance. A triple for Subratie.

RACE NINE – The real upset came in the nightpan. That was Coppertone trained by veteran Randolph Scott at 24-1.

There was one winner of the Pick-9 who carried home the tidy sum of $1,583, 631.
