KINGSTON, Jamaica – The following are some quick notes based on the Overnight for Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Caymanas Park. Please note the Overnight race order, riders assigned and the number of horses racing will change after scratch time, tomorrow (Tuesday, July 27).
– There are ten races on the card, although only nine were originally offered in the condition book. The three-year-old maiden event received 21 entries and was split into two separate races.
– Of those ten races, four will be run coming down the straight chute. Three of these straight races will be over four furlongs (800 metres).
– Of much significance, leading rider Dane Dawkins is not nominated to ride any of the 107 horses listed in the ten races. QUICKGALLOP.COM understands that Dawkins failed to attend a scheduled meeting with the stewards of the Jamaica Racing Commission this morning, Tuesday, July 26, 2022. As a result, Dawkins will not be allowed to ride until he meets with the stewards’ body. That next meeting is set for next week Tuesday (August 2).
– The Eros Trophy (seven furlongs) is the feature. Eight horses are entered including the highly impressive foreigner Runaway Algo trained by Dale Murphy. Runaway Algo should face tough competition from fellow foreigners I’ve Got Magic, Eroy, and Uncle Fred, with Calculus leading the way for the locally bred horses.
– There are nine first-time runners listed on the Overnight, all in the two maiden three-year-old races. There breeding and other information will be the subject of a separate article on this website.
