KINGSTON, Jamaica – Papa Albert (duly obliged as the 1-2 favourite in the Caymanas Wednesday third to give his trainer Steven Todd his second winner on the day. Todd’s first winner was Sweet Renisha at 27-1 in the second race.
The Caymanas Wednesday third was for Optional Claimers ($180,000 - $150,000) travelling five furlongs round.
Special Prosecutor (Roger Hewitt) came out of his starting stall as if possessed to establish a five to six lengths lead on the chasing pack led by Smokescreen (Chris Mamdeen) and Papa Albert with co-champion Anthony Thomas in the saddle.
Entering the stretch drive in this short sprint, it was still Special Prosecutor holding tough with both Papa Albert and Smokescreen coming with their runs.
As to be expected Special Prosecutor chucked the galloped at the furlong pole with Thomas bringing Papa Albert forward to win by 2 ¼ lengths. Smokescreen was second and Special Prosecutor third.
Papa Albert was winning for the 13th occasion from 52 career starts.
