The ninth race on Saturday, February 28, 2026, is staged in honour of the late champion trainer, Alan ‘Billy’ Williams, whose achievements remain etched in the annals of Jamaican racing. This commemorative event pays tribute to his enduring legacy, celebrating a career defined by excellence, resilience, and a profound influence on the sport.

The contest is framed at the Overnight Allowance level, drawing together eight horses who will face off over seven furlongs.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the likely outcome is presented below, in barrier order.

1 – MISS GROVE (CANADA)

Steps into this grade after back-to-back victories, the most recent on February 18, secured via the stewards’ room. This marks her first attempt at the Overnight level, where a fresh learning curve awaits.

2 – SENSATIONAL SOUL

The former Classic winner has rediscovered peak form in recent outings. Last time out, Sensational Soul finished a respectable fourth over 6 ½ furlongs, 3 ¾ lengths adrift of the imported Wall Street Trader. The slight increase in trip should prove beneficial, and he is expected to be charging strongly in the final two furlongs.

3 – RANI BANGALA

Graduates from the claiming ranks into Overnight Allowance. Faces a steep rise in class and will need significant improvement to trouble these rivals.

4 – UNSPUN (USA)

A former two-year-old champion returning after an 84-day break, having failed to fire in the December 2025 Mouttet Mile. His last success came in September 2025 at 7 ½ furlongs. Encouraging reports from morning gallops suggest Unspun is well-prepared for this comeback, and the trip should suit.

5 – FLORINDIA (USA)

Now racing in blinkers and under the care of the champion trainer. Florindia has shown pleasing signs in morning exercise and appears poised for a competitive re-entry.

6 – FEARLESS SOUL

Since returning on February 7, has produced two lacklustre performances. May require more time to regain sharpness.

7 – OIL MACHINE

A local-bred who has struck peak form in recent runs, including a win on January 31 and a runner-up finish behind the talented Wall Street Trader. Despite conceding weight to all but Unspun, Oil Machine is expected to deliver another strong performance. A solid choice for wagers such as the exacta, quinella, and trifecta.

8 – THE GENERAL

With 40 starts yielding four wins, The General now steps into the Overnight Allowance grade. Adjustment to this higher level of competition will be his immediate challenge.
