KINGSTON, Jamaica – One eyed American chestnut horse Saratoga Sight benefitting from a smart ride by apprentice Christopher Mamdeen to take home the Ren Gonzalves Memorial Cup for Overnight Allowance horses over 10 furlongs just moments ago at Caymanas Park.
Mamdeen after a slow start positioned Saratoga Sight on the rails thereby allowing the horse's eye defect not to bother him, and in the straight, the American had enough strength to firmly hold his gallop, winning in the end by an easy three lengths.
Trained by Gary Subratie, Saratoga Sight went off at even money. Second went to the 3-2 Bruce Wayne with the third spot occupied by Royal Vibes at 2-1.
It was a rare case of horses one, two and three in the starting gates finishing in that order.
