KINGSTON, Jamaica – The employment of a well-known tactic in racing assisted in the victory effort of foreigner Jordon Reign’s in the Caymanas Saturday (June 18) feature. That race was an Overnight Allowance call for three-year-old and upwards horses going 6 ½ furlongs.
Jordon Reign’s’s (Dane Dawkins) victory was greatly assisted by his stablemate She’s A Wonder, who did her part by first getting a smart break and then by perpetually harassing the 2-1 chance Lure of Lucy (Anthony Thomas) until the latter part of the straight when She’s A Wonder ran out of steam.
Lure of Lucy after setting searing splits of 22.3 x 45.2 x 1.11.3, galloped with purpose in the final furlong, yet in the end, the taxing splits came down hard on the filly, as she but fell victim to the sweeping acceleration surge of Jordon Reign’s.
Trained by Ian Parsard, Jordon Reign’s, who was not the best away when the gates opened, was superbly guided by Dawkins, his fourth winner on the Saturday programme. Biding his time, Dawkins entered the lane (last two furlongs) with much ground to cover. He then hit fourth gear a furlong out and was able to catch Lure of Lucy close home, winning by half-a-length. Secret Identity (Matthew Bennett) finished third.
The winning time clocked by Jordon Reign’s was a fast 1:19.1. Returning from a break of 76 days, Jordon Reign’s was recording his fourth win from six career starts.
