KINGSTON, Jamaica – The pattern of close finishes continued in the Caymanas Thursday fourth with My Smokey just hanging on to deny Miss Francis and jockey Natalie Berger.
Miss Francis and My Smokey ridden by Andre Powell and trained by Wayne Parchment mixed it up with Nydan (Jordan Barrett) on the front end.
Powell while circling the final bend pushed My Smokey to the lead as Berger and Miss Francis backed off.
It was My Smokey in the straight but Miss Francis found her hoofs with a renewed challenge.
The two fought it out with neither giving any quarter but in the end My Smokey prevailed by a short head.
My Smokey was the first winner this year for Powell.
