KINGSTON, Jamaica - Brisk bidding in the 2022 Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) Mixed Sale, which saw 40 yearlings sold from a consigned list 87 for just over $60 million was brought to a sudden halt by mother nature on Sunday, November 13 in the official car park at Caymanas Park.
A downpour of rain accompanied by strong winds damaged the tents where patrons of the sale were seated and where officials of TOBA conducted the business at hand, forcing the organisers to bring an end to the sale on the day.
“It was one of those things in life. The sale was going so well. Forty yearlings out of the 87 we had in the catalogue were sold for over $60 million, making for an approximate average of $1.5 million per yearling.
“The sale will now continue on Sunday, December 4, at the same venue following the Mouttet Mile, which was what we had planned to do from the beginning, but it was an objection from one of our major breeders who got other breeders to agree with him about moving the date,” Hamilton told The Supreme Racing Guide.
Hamilton continued: “Most of those breeders conditioned their own horses because they are trainers, and so we are hoping now to have the rest of the sale and to bring in new horses from those people who were late with their entries to have a proper sale again. I strongly believe that come December 4, there will be more buyers around, and the sale will be even better.”
Of the 40 yearlings sold on Sunday, two came under the hammer at $3.6 million, with one sold for $3.4 million
Lot #12, a chestnut filly consigned by Wilbert Bagwandeen by Sensational Slam out of Palace Gold sold for $3.6 million. Note, Palace Gold has already produced Will The Conquerer.
Lot #19 a chestnut colt by Hedge Fund out of Dream Big fetched $3.6 million. Lot 19 was consigned by Lakeland Farms Limited. Note, Dream Big has already produced Dejae’s Boy.
Lot #36, a bay filly by Sensational Slam out of Princess Shine sold for $3.4 million.

Lot #3, a chestnut filly by Bern Identity out of Keep The Faith sold for $2.1 million. Keep The Faith has already produced Vanquisher and Wifey Sez So, and Bootylicious.
Lot #7, a chestnut filly by Sensational Slam out of Luminous Trieste sold for 2.6 million/ Luminous Trieste has produced Goliath The Great and Thalita.
Lot # 9, a chestnut filly by Hedge Fund out of Swabybaby sold for 2.6 million. .
Lot 41, a bay filly by Seeking My Dream – Track Rose – $2.4 million
Lot 1, a grey filly by Successful Native – Runaway Julie – $2 million
Lot 29, a chestnut filly by Bern Identity – Angel Dreams – $2 million
Lot 50, a bay filly by Hedge Fund – Sound of Miracle – $2 million
