KINGSTON, Jamaica – Looking fairly accomplished in the saddle current trainee apprentice at the Jamaica Racing Commission's Training School, Marshall Porter came from well off the pace on Awesome Cat to catch long-time leader Song On Track with Jawara Steadman in the saddle to win the fourth race at Caymanas Park a short while ago.
Porter achieved his victory in a Special Exercise Riders event for $180,000 - $150,000 claimers run over four furlongs. Song On Track finished second with Two Steps Up third.
Trained by Anthony Ferguson, Awesome Cat recorded a winning time of 48.0 seconds, while obiliging at odds of 5-2.
After the race an elated Porter said:” I always wanted to win this race and I did and I am extremely happy. The trainer told me that the horse was fit and ready and I must not stop riding, no matter where I was in the race and I did that and got the job done and I thank the connections for giving me the ride.”
