MARK THE QUICK GALLOPER’S WORD – CALCULUS VS RUNAWAY ALGO

KINGSTON, Jamaica – There might be only six starters in this year’s renewal of the nine furlongs and 25 yards, three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance run for the Mark My Word Trophy, yet serious competition is expected involving the two main protagonists, Calculus, and foreigner Runaway Algo.

The Mark My Word Trophy is listed as the eighth event on the Saturday card of October 8, 2022, at Caymanas Park.

THE QUICK GALLOPER examines the six horses entered in post-position order.

1 – BIG JULE tries this grade for the second occasion. Big Jule, while a lover of the longer distances cannot manage these just yet.

2 – CALCULUS established his credentials as the best stayer around when winning the 10-furlong Menudo 14 days ago. In the Mark My Word, Calculus gives away the weight to all his rivals but is in such good nick, he can be counted on to deliver. There are known speedsters present with Calculus having the natural ability to stay off the leaders, and then strike with say three furlongs to go.

3 – RUNAWAY ALGO is currently enjoying the best form of his career. On September 25, this US-bred chestnut colt sizzled at seven and a half furlongs, winning is a fast 1:30.4 seconds. Now this talented thoroughbred tries two turns for the first time. Runaway Algo gets nine pounds from Calculus and with his speed plus judicious reinsmanship from Chris Mamdeen, Runaway Algo is a live contender. He has to deal with two quick fillies, She’s A Wonder and Make Up Artist, making the decisions to be made by Mamdeen crucial.

4 – SHE’S A WONDER returns following a short break. This Classic winning filly wins her races from in front and has worked exceptionally well coming into this race. If she is ridden with patience and not rushed, She’s A Wonder can have a say in the outcome.

5 – MONEY MONSTER is coming to grips with this level. Needs time.

6 – MAKE UP ARTIST is a speedster, who tries two turns for the first time. Difficult to see this one winning. Make Up Artist will be a disturbing factor on the headlines and that is about it.
