KINGSTON, Jamaica - Manoushe, trained by Richard Azan and ridden by Jawara Steadman, got up in the nick of time to beat rivals on the line in a native-bred three-year-old maiden call at 5½ furlongs on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
Manoushe settled in fourth place at the off, as Grey Commander (Daniel Thompson) seized the initiative going into the half-mile turn ahead of The Bees Knees (Bebeto Harvey) and Princess Akilah (Matthew Bennett).
Manoushe surrounded horses, getting closer to Grey Commander as they approached the distance, with The Bees Knees and Newland Links (Reyan Lewis) both making good runs.
Turning for home, Grey Commander continued to hold the lead, but with yards to go Steadman produced his mount with a strong effort and Manoushe got up for his first win.
Manoushe won by half-length in a time of 1:10.2 (24.2 x 48.1). The Bees Knees, a stablemate of Manoushe, finished third.
