KINGSTON, Jamaica – The rafters at Caymanas Park shook like never before as the two best horses currently in training, She’s A Maneater and Will In Charge produced a stirring and sustained battle just minutes ago in the straight as the Park erupted with appreciation of thoroughbred racing at its best.
She’s A Maneater, runner-up to Will In Charge in the Horse of the Year category for 2018, with regular rider Omar Walker returned to her classy and dominant self with a determined run with two furlongs to go in the 9 furlongs and 25 yards, Grade One Legal Light Trophy, and was able to put her head where it mattered most.
“She is back to her best after a dodgy run on last. And we all in racing should be grateful for having seen this filly race. She’s A Maneater is special, so special words can never be found to tell her true worth,” trainer of the filly Wayne DaCosta said after the stirring victory as members of the crowd present shouted “Maneater, Maneater”.
To add to her supreme effort, She’s A Maneater broke Will In Charge’s Stakes record for the distance, 1:54.4, with a 1:54.2 timing.
Third way behind the two leading lights in local racing was Bigdaddykool who was racing for the first time this year.
She's A Maneater was the second winner on the 10-race Saturday card for DaCosta and Walker.
Indeed, this was a fitting tribute to the great Legal Light.
