Champion trainer Jason DaCosta has announced that two of his standout mares, Mamma Mia and Comehometome, will be retired from racing and transitioned to the breeding shed with immediate effect.
Mamma Mia, the six-year-old chestnut daughter of Soul Warrior out of Princess Geeta, closed her career on January 1, 2026, when she finished fourth in her final outing before being disqualified. Over the course of 37 starts, she captured ten victories, highlighted by her triumph in the fillies-only 1000 Guineas at age three.
Her last success came on October 11 in the I’m Satisfied Trophy. Beyond her wins, she recorded four runner-up finishes and six third-place efforts, including a notable third in the prestigious Mouttet Mile. She retires with career earnings surpassing $16 million and is slated to be served by Sensational Slam.
Comehometome, meanwhile, bowed out on December 14 after compiling a record of 24 starts. The mare secured four wins, placed second six times, and finished third on three occasions, amassing more than $6 million in prize money for her connections. She will now begin her new chapter in the breeding shed, where she is expected to be paired with Soul Warrior.
