Trainer Louis Richards and jockey Oneil Scott clinched their first victory of the 2024 racing circuit aboard the spirited five-year-old chestnut, One Like It, in Saturday's third race on March 9, 2024.
The event won by One Like It was within the three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming category, brandishing a handsome purse ranging from $550,000 to $450,000. This field also had seasoned competitors—six-year-olds and older (non-winners of four)—to the 6-furlong challenge.
From the starting gates, One Like It went into immediate action, vying for the lead against Thegoodlife, ridden by Jordan Barrett, with contenders Wilson (Robert Halledeen) and Traditional Boy (Shane Richardson) in pursuit.
As the pack thundered towards the half-mile turn, One Like It fiercely contended with Thegoodlife before seizing the opportunity to surge ahead.
Nearing the final stretch, the chestnut demonstrated a turn of foot, distancing himself from the field. Wilson, with Halledeen at the helm, launched a gutsy bid to close the gap.
Nonetheless, it was One Like It who triumphed, crossing the finish line with a decisive 2 ½ length lead. Wilson secured the runner-up position while High Diplomacy, under the guidance of Andrew Wright, claimed the show spot. The victor's final time stopped the clock at an impressive 1:17.1, etching the fractions 23.1 by 48.4 into the record books.
