KINGSTON, Jamaica – Juice Man (Storm Craft – Passion), bred in Jamaica by Richard Lake’s Lakeland Farms won the Trinidad Derby (10-furlongs) earlier today (Tuesday, September 24) at the Santa Rosa race track in Arima.
Another Jamaican bred horse Apocalypse (Nuclear Wayne – Classic Princess) finished second with Trini bred Making Headlines third.
Juice Man trained by Glen Mendez and ridden by Ricky Jadoo stalked the early leader Marengo from the start of the race then took over with approximately four furlongs to go with Apocalypse making his run almost alongside Juice Man.
In the stretch run it was a ding dong battle involving Juice Man and Apocalypse with the former holding to the end as the 2-5 favourite.
Juice Man is owned Justyn Kanta Persad.
Juice Man was trained in Jamaica by Anthony Nunes before going to Trinidad.
Juice Man winning time for 10 furlongs was 2:05.0 which was a record; breaking the previous time of 2:05.1 held jointly by Bruce On The Loose and Top of the Class.
