He has been a familiar fixture in the irons for years, but veteran jockey Shane Richardson proved his current form is as sharp by riding a double on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Those two victories brought his winning tally for the 2026 racing season to eight, marking his most productive campaign in a very long time.
Richardson’s first taste of success on the card came in the day’s third race aboard the Peter-John Parsard-trained I Realise.
Making a highly anticipated return from a lengthy 244-day layoff, having last competed on December 21, 2025, the seven-year-old bay gelding showed absolutely no signs of rust.
Facing just five rivals over seven furlongs, Richardson made the task look effortless. The son of Northern Giant, out of the mare Regina Royale, seized the lead right from the when the gates and widened his advantage as the race unfolded.
By the time they crossed the wire, I Realise had opened up a 14 ¾-length margin over the second-placed Money Monster, ridden by Phillip Parchment, while Calvin Bailey’s mount, Noble Sovereign, finished a further three-quarters of a length back in third.
I Realise stopped the clock in 1:28.2, dictating the pace with fractions of 24.1, 48.0, and 1:14.1. This performance secured the gelding's sixth victory from 27 career starts, nudging his total lifetime earnings close to the $5 million milestone.
It did not take long for Richardson to complete his double. In the fifth race, he produced a massive upset atop the Anthony Dixon-conditioned The Gifted One, shocking punters at searing odds of 22-1 over four-furlongs. Guided by the highly favorable draw in gate 10, The Gifted One flashed sharp early speed to race prominently from the moment the gates crashed open.
Richardson then asked for a final effort, and the horse responded by pulling away cleanly in the closing stages to score by a comfortable 3 ¾ lengths. The winning time was 49.2 seconds, anchored by opening split of 24.0 seconds for the first quarter-mile.
This surprise victory marked The Gifted One’s third career win from 60 lifetime starts, pushing his total bankroll past the $2 million mark. For trainer Anthony Dixon, the win represented his third success of 2026 from 33 starters.
