Jockey Paul Francis loses two appeals – will serve six-day suspension

KINGSTON, Jamaica - On Thursday, 17th June, 2021 the Jamaica Racing Commission heard an appeal from Jockey Paul Francis submitted against the Stewards’ decision handed down on Tuesday 21st January, 2020 to suspend him for two (2) race days and impose a fine of twenty thousand dollars ($20,000.00). This is in relation to interference caused to horse #1 Sweetie Girl leaving the 500-meter point during the eighth race on Wednesday, 27th November 2019 while aboard #8 Cruise Lava Cruise.

After reviewing the race film and submissions made by Mr. Ed Barnes, Jockey Paul Francis’s representative and Jamaica Racing Commission’s Operations Steward. The Commission saw no reason to overturn the decision of the Stewards. The suspension commenced on Saturday 19th June 2021.

On Thursday, 17th June, 2021 the Jamaica Racing Commission heard an appeal from Jockey Paul Francis submitted against the Stewards’ decision handed down on Tuesday 16th March, 2021 to suspend him for four (4) race days and imposed a fine of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00). This is in relation to Interference caused to horse #6 Mr. Universe leaving the 100-meter point during the second race on Saturday, 6th March 2021 while aboard #1 Anaso.

After careful review of the race film and submissions made by Mr. Ed Barnes, Jockey Paul Francis representative and Jamaica Racing Commission’s Operations Steward, the Commission saw no reason to overturn the decision of the Stewards. The suspension commences on Monday 28th June 2021.
