In a race defined by patience and precision, Jason DaCosta’s five-year-old bay gelding Is That A Fact carved out a decisive victory in the Errol “Big Sub” Subratie Memorial Cup on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Caymanas Park. The American-bred runner, known for his measured style, now turns his attention to the Bruceontheloose Sprint on the Mouttet Mile race day in December.

The Overnight Allowance event, run over a mile, saw Is That A Fact settle mid-pack early, with apprentice jockey Shaheem Gordon keeping his cool as Unruly Mo, Mack and Rome, and Run Julie Run dictated the early fractions. Gordon waited until the final turn to unleash his mount, who responded with a sharp burst that carried him past the leaders and into the winner’s enclosure.

The final time of 1:39.1 (24.0 x 46.4 x 1:12.0 x 1:25.2) reflected not just speed, but timing, Is That A Fact overtook Run Julie Run in the stretch and held off her late surge to win by a length and three-quarters. Linguist finished third, unable to match the top pair’s closing pace.

DaCosta, speaking after the race, said, “He’s coming into his own. We’ve been patient with him, and today he showed why. The ride was spot-on, and the horse is responding to everything we’ve asked of him. The Bruceontheloose Sprint is next, and we’re excited.”

Gordon, who continues to impress with his composure, added, “I kept him relaxed early and waited for the right moment. The trainer’s instructions were clear, and the horse gave me everything. He’s improving, and I’d love to stay aboard.”
