The Quick Galloper has compiled a list of some of the fact and figures from the result of the Jamaica 1000 Guineas won by Burning Hedge, owned, trained and bred by Carl Anderson, and ridden by champion jockey, Raddesh Roman.
NUMBER ONE – The 2025 Jamaica 1000 Guineas featured a starting field of 15, one of the largest in recent years.
NUMBER TWO – Burning Hedge provided her sire, Hedge Fund, with a second Classic victory. His first came in the 2024 Jamaica 2000 Guineas with California Crown. Meanwhile, the runner-up, Linguist, is sired by Aveenu Malcainu, whose first three-year-old crop is now emerging as one to watch.
NUMBER THREE – Carl Anderson became the first person in the 51-year history of the Jamaica 1000 Guineas to win the Classic as the owner, trainer, and breeder of the victorious horse. A rare feat in local racing.
NUMBER FOUR – While Anderson won his first Jamaica 1000 Guineas as a trainer, he previously claimed victory as an owner in 2001. Racing under the name Mercedes Gold, his filly Awesome Power won the Guineas, trained by Patrick Chang and ridden by Ramon Parish.
NUMBER FIVE – Among Jamaica’s top trainers, the best result in the 1000 Guineas came from Pretty Perfect, trained by Gary Subratie, who finished fifth. Jason DaCosta, the reigning champion trainer, had just one entry—Social Mischief—who finished last.
NUMBER SIX – Champion jockey Raddesh Roman secured his first win in the Jamaica 1000 Guineas with Burning Hedge.
NUMBER SEVEN – Burning Hedge recorded her first victory of 2025 in the Jamaica 1000 Guineas. It marked the third career win for the filly.
NUMBER EIGHT – Burning Hedge previously won the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, the most significant juvenile races, in 2024. Despite that victory, she was not crowned Jamaica’s top two-year-old, an honour that went to the American-bred Unspun. Historically, the Two-Year-Old Stakes has consistently proven to be an indicator of future success for three-year-olds.
Burning Hedge’s triumph not only strengthens her reputation but also cements her connections in Jamaican racing history.
