KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a dogged and persevering performance 3-5 on favourite Saint Michael was able to stave off the final push of Sweet Surprise (5-2 – Anthony Thomas) to win the Caymanas Saturday third.

With most improved jockey of last year Paul ‘Country’ Francis aboard, Saint Michael trained by Johnny Wilmot, took over on the front end after three furlongs were completed and entered the straight with a good enough lead.

Thomas got Sweet Surprise going with 1 ½ furlongs to go, joining Saint Michael but Francis dug deep and pulled off to win by 1 ¼ lengths.

Sweet Surprise was second and Sea Cruise (Linton Steadman) third.
