KINGSTON, Jamaica – To say that the owner of Atomica, Don Wehby was elated beyond recognition, when his pride and joy was announced as the 2022 Horse of the Year, is an understatement of massive proportions.
“I elated and feel blessed. Atomica is a very special filly. She is a dream come through for our family. She has brought us a lot of joy in 2022 which helped us to cope with the loss of my father in August,” Wehby who heads the Oakridge Farm said in this interview with Quickgallop.com.
Wehby added: “Her outstanding run in the Jamaica Cup stands out for me. Breaking the track record by 3 seconds and beating Grade 1 horses by 16 lengths. And of course the Derby. That has always been my dream. The Derby for me is the premier race on the calendar. Congratulations to the trainer Gary Subratie Breeder Karl Samuda. Groom Errol Thomas and Jockey Dane Dawkins. I saw her on Sunday and she is recovering well from her injury in the mile race. I am sure Gary will take his time and bring her back to the races.”
