Saturday, October 11, 2025, brought a rare but welcome victory for jockey Chalrick Budhai and trainer Ray Phillips, as four-year-old filly Havajoy edged her way to the winner’s enclosure in the third race at Caymanas Park.
The 7½ furlong contest wasn’t just another race—it marked a turning point in what has been a quiet season for both horsemen. Budhai, a familiar face in the saddle, was celebrating only his second win from 30 rides this year. For Phillips, the triumph was his first from 22 starters in 2025.
But the celebration didn’t come immediately.
Havajoy, a chestnut daughter of Legal Process out of Lady Tarkari, engaged in a fierce stretch duel with Rock-Ola, piloted by apprentice Dane McKenzie. The two battled stride for stride to the wire, with Havajoy narrowly prevailing by a short head.
What followed was a tense stewards’ inquiry and an objection lodged by McKenzie. After a thorough review, the original result stood: Havajoy first, Rock-Ola second, and Chesney third.
For Havajoy, it was her second career win from 20 starts, pushing her earnings past the $1 million mark.
