KINGSTON, Jamaica - The Valbert Marlowe Memorial Cup takes place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, as the fourth race of the day. This event is open to four-year-old locally bred horses that have not won four races, as well as imported four-year-olds that have not won three races.

The race will be run on the rarely used nine-furlong course, with six horses nominated to start.

Here's The Quick Galloper's analysis of the potential outcome of the Valbert Marlowe Memorial Cup.

1 - POWER FROM ABOVE has proven her preference for longer distances, with her most recent win coming on March 24 at a mile. After a 28-day break and two placing runs in non-winners of four races (a fourth and a third), Power From Above is poised to secure her fourth win.

2 - CALIFORNIA GOLD has three wins from 23 starts. While he has been improving, his last five races have not been longer than 7 ½ furlongs. California Gold may struggle to win at the nine-furlong distance.

3 - ANTARCTICA is the only horse in the field with a win at nine furlongs. He appears to enjoy longer races, having competed at nine furlongs, seven furlongs, a mile, nine furlongs and 25 yards, a mile, and a mile in his last five starts. Expect Antarctica to take the lead from the gate and try to hold it in a "catch me if you can" race.

4 - AWESOME ANTHONY has not raced beyond 7 ½ furlongs in his last nine starts. The nine-furlong distance may be challenging for him.

5 - BROWN SKIN GIRL is coming off a hard-fought win 20 days ago. Now stepping up to non-winners of four for the first time, she may need to wait for her next victory.

6 - COOKIE DAY N NIGHT will likely find the competition and the distance difficult to handle.
