KINGSTON, Jamaica – Over the three last race days (May 20, May 22, and May 23), there were many races for three-year-olds only at the maiden and non-winners of two levels.

The Quick Galloper assesses all these races to keep readers up to date and to examine whether any of these winners can be effective in the upcoming Classic races.

SATURDAY, MAY 20, 2023

Essential Quality ran out an 11-length winner in a maiden call, against what can be considered to be a weak set of rivals. This chestnut filly will more than likely go through her conditions, with the Classic being far out of her reach at this time.

MONDAY MAY 22, 2022

Captain Calico has come on late. He was just able to win over five furlongs straight against a first-timer in Kem. Captain Calico has a long way to go, even go through his three-year-old conditions.

Princess Sharon is a completely different kettle of fish. Racing at non-winners of two Princess Sharon was clinical in winning against some seasoned campaigners. After leaving rivals behind rounding the bend going seven furlongs, Princess Sharon fought hard as the likes of All For Love and From Sheer To Ben challenged fiercely. She hung on to win by three parts of a length. This win by Princess Sharon continued her forward movement, yet having finished way off against the more accomplished three-year-old fillies in the recently contested, The Portmore (7 ½ furlongs), Princess Sharon will probably start in the upcoming 1000 Guineas, with a place on the board the best she can hope for. Princess Sharon will, however, go through her condition with relative ease.

MONDAY MAY 23, 2023

Money Miser was devastating in shedding the maiden tag winning by all of 21 lengths, albeit against a rather moderate field of age group rivals. Money Miser’s victory came in his second run, a fair indication that he is of some worth going forward. The 2000 Guineas is much too early for him.

Smooth Aviator finally found his first success after 11 tries. That is about it for Smooth Aviator.

Royal Ash came flying over five and a half furlongs to nip Big Guy In The Sky, and Money Market in a non-two call. Royal Ash's two victories have come over four furlongs, and now 5 ½ furlongs respectively, giving a clear indication that this roan filly is developing into a fair come-from-behind sprinter.
