SUNDAY STROLL FOR SMARTY TRADITION

Smarty Tradition, running with the figure 8 on, went on an evening stroll in a Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) event for three-year-olds and upwards over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round.
Jockey Roger Hewitt got the Errol Subratie-conditioned Smarty Tradition (Traditional – Smarty Marty) into a good position at the off as the seven-year-old sat on the outside of Dash of Class (Aaron Chatrie) and Valiant (Romario Spencer). Going into the half-mile (800m) turn, Smarty Tradition pointed on rivals and began to open up approaching the home bend.
Turning for home with an easy lead, Smarty Tradition coasted clear to win the event by 8½ lengths in a time of 1:03.1 for a career fifth win from 85 starts, bankrolling over $3.6 million in stakes earnings. Party Princess (Reyan Lewis) finished second and Lady Budget (Oshane Nugent) third.

SNOWFLAKES MAKES A WINNING START

Four-year-old grey filly Snowflakes made a winning start to her career in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards Maiden Condition Race at 6 furlongs (1,200m).
Christopher Mamdeen pushed Snowflakes (American Dance – Miss Pasion) straight to the front at the start of the race ahead of Bubbly Girl (Samantha Fletcher), Six Avenue (Roger Hewitt), and Pro Johnny, ridden by Dick Cardenas.
Snowflakes continued to lead rivals and brought the field into the lane with Six Avenue breathing down her back. However, the Colin Ferguson trainee found extra and edged away for a three-part-length win at the line.
Six Avenue was determined in second place, with the floating Pro Johnny in the third spot. The winning time was a pedestrian 1:17.3, so too the splits of 24.1 x 48.3, but this was an encouraging effort by the first-timer.

RARE WINNER FOR APPRENTICE RAMON NEPARE

Apprentice Ramon Nepare rode his third winner for the season aboard the Marlon Anderson-trained Diosa de Oro in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($550,000-$450,000) spread going a mile (1,600m).
Diosa de Oro left the starting gates in good order as the eight-year-old bay mare followed Fabulosity (Roger Hewitt) passing the intersection at the 7-furlong marker and down the backstretch.
Diosa de Oro maintained her gallop well until approaching the distance when she took over the lead and brought the field into the lane. Diosa de Oro just held on to score by a short head from the fast-finishing Doctor Grey (Javaniel Patterson) and Silent Cat (Shavon Townsend). The winning time was 1:43.1.

EXECUTIVE CHIEF IS AN EASY WINNER

Executive Chief, after finishing a length second to Basilicus over the straight on July 10 coming off a 14-month break, easily brushed aside rivals in a five-year-old and upwards (non-winners of four) travelling 5½ furlongs (1,100m).
Trained by Patrick Lynch and ridden by Dane Dawkins, Executive Chief raced in second place behind Just An Illusion (Dick Cardenas) at the off. Executive Chief continued to track Just An Illusion around the half mile before hitting the front full of running approaching the distance.
Entering the drive with the lead, Executive Chief went about his business as the Casual Trick offspring won by 5¼ lengths in a smooth 1:08.0 for the trip. Just An Illusion held on for second place, with Ajita (Anthony Thomas) getting up for third.
