KINGSTON, Jamaica – After becoming the first trainer of the new batch of 39, to make a visit to the winners’ circle, Paul Swaby is not resting on this success.

Swaby graduated from the latest trainers’ course on Friday (May 12), and was among the six who has their first starters on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

The new trainer saddled Katalina in the fifth event, with the five-year-old mare responding well to urgings of her rider Calvin Bailey to win by four lengths.

Swaby was then swamped by his classmates, as the celebrations rang out for the first of the new lot to officially win a race.

While he is ecstatic with his first win from his first starter, Swaby was rather subdued when he spoke with Quickgallop.com.

“Naturally, I am happy. The class of  new trainers is a close one, we went through many things  together, so, yes I am ecstatic with the win by Katalina, but I have been around the racing industry for a while now, to understand that one win does does make a summer.

“For me, the celebration is done, it is time for the work to continue. I am a trainer, who wants to win races, and I can only accomplish that aim by working harder and harder. I have prepared for this for a long time, and the time to deliver is now,” Swaby told Quickgallop.com.
