KINGSTON, Jamaica - Eight-year-old grey horse Kingswood, who stepped down in class from a $400,000 claiming tag, made light work of rivals, winning by 14 lengths travelling 6 furlongs on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

Kingwood's success came in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) spread that also included six-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of three) and native-bred five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two).

With Richard Henry in the saddle for trainer Errol Waugh, Kingswood battled King Antholew (Ameth Robles) and Silverstine (Ramon Nepare) for the early advantage. Silverstine took control going into the half-mile (800m) turn but that excitement only lasted for a brief moment as Kingswood surged to the front coming into the lane.

Kingswood accelerated in deep stretch and powered home to register his first win for the season and fifth overall from 32 career starts. Silverstine finished second ahead of Party Princess (Reyan Lewis) in third place. The final time for the race was 1:17.2 (24.0 x 48.1).
