With the 2025 Mouttet Mile now just six weeks away, anticipation is building across the racing fraternity as the island’s premier flat race inches closer to its December staging.
Following the latest “Win And You’re In” qualifier, the Phillip Feanny Gold Cup held on Saturday, October 4, the odds-makers affiliated with this website convened to assess the performances and finalize the first wave of early odds for confirmed and potential starters in the Mouttet Mile.
Topping the list is the Rohan Crichton-trained Legacy Isle, who emerged as the 8-5 early favourite. His victory in the Gold Cup, achieved while conceding weight to nearly all rivals, solidified his status as the horse to beat. Legacy Isle’s tactical speed and resilience under pressure were key factors in the odds-makers’ unanimous decision to place him at the head of the market.
Runner-up Rideallday, who finished just half a length behind Legacy Isle while receiving weight, has been priced at 5-2. His late surge in the final furlong impressed analysts, especially considering his age, like Supernatural Power, Rideallday is a three-year-old, and both are viewed as horses with further developmental upside.
Supernatural Power, who closed strongly to finish fourth in the Gold Cup, has been assigned odds of 4-1. Her performance in the final two furlongs suggested untapped potential, and her youthful profile adds intrigue to her Mouttet Mile prospects.
Barnaby, though absent from the Gold Cup, enters the early odds board at 8-1. Already qualified for the Mouttet Mile, the odds-makers noted his steady conditioning of a tailored campaign aimed directly at the December feature.
The defending Mouttet Mile champion, Funcaadun, remains a question mark. His underwhelming run in the Gold Cup raised eyebrows, and his path to the final 16 now more than likely hinges on the upcoming Jamaica Cup—a 9½ furlong “Win And You’re In” event scheduled for November 8. Funcaadun’s participation in the Mouttet Mile is contingent on a strong showing there, and the same applies to Tiz Tok and Desert of Malibu. The latter will for sure be targeting the Port Royal Sprint, another qualifying race on the same November card, as her ticket into the Mile.
The odds-makers also weighed the potential return of Incredible Jo, a horse of considerable talent who has been sidelined for an extended period due to injury. Should he be declared fit, Incredible Jo is expected to contest the Port Royal Sprint in a bid to secure a place in the Mouttet Mile. The inclusion of Incredible Jo would add depth and flair to an already competitive field.
Odds were not assigned at this time to the three overseas based horses since January 1, 2025, who are listed as confirmed starters in the Mouttet Mile. The three are Dothraki, trained by Jason DaCosta, Fortuna Belle, trained by Robert Pearson, and Nautical Star, conditioned by Anthony Nunes. Their odds will be determined following further evaluation, likely after their next public workouts or prep races.
The odds-makers will reconvene after the Jamaica Cup and Port Royal Sprint to update the odds-board and finalize projections for the final field.
