On his 41st mount of the 2025 Racing Year in Jamaica, with just one prior win to his name, claimer Nicardo Carr earned high praise for his composed handling of Amad Ali (4-1).

Saddled by veteran Randolph Scott, the lightly raced six-year-old chestnut was reserved early in the six-furlong opener but responded decisively under Carr’s urging to edge past favourite Casual Peach (3-5) in the final stride, scoring by a head.

In race two, the Reprieve Trophy, run over nine furlongs with a modest field of six, Clive Lynch delivered a masterclass in tactical riding to land his 500th career win. Ironically, the milestone came aboard Mr Lee, trained by Lee Clarke, who wore down Lynch’s former mount Alchemy of Souls (2-5)—a gallant runner-up in the recent $3.75 million Winston Fanna Griffiths Trophy. Lynch had piloted Alchemy of Souls then, but a late shift for racing room cost him victory by half a length. This time, he reversed fortunes to prevail by a neck.

Another landmark was achieved by Dick Cardenas, the 2011 champion jockey, who notched career win number 800 aboard Midnight Flight (9-5) in race nine. Trained by Byron Davis, the length-and-a-half winner dominated the five-furlong straight with authority.

Race three saw third-generation trainer Steven Todd send out Train of Thought (USA), a 3-1 bet, fit and ready for the extended nine-furlong circular course.

Dane Dawkins, the 2022 champion rider, guided the dark bay filly to a determined victory over 6-5 favourite Brenda Boy, winning by just over a length. Dawkins later doubled up in race nine’s featured Ron Ron Trophy, partnering Miss MoneyPenny (7-2), a gritty front-runner from Jason DaCosta’s barn to hold on by half a length.

The juvenile ranks were lit up in race four by Sir Don (USA), trained by former three-time champion Anthony Nunes. In the Maiden Special Weight dash for 2024 foals, Raddesh Roman, the reigning and 2025-designate champion, remained motionless for most of the four furlongs as the 2-5 favourite, a well-conformed bay by Spun To Run, romped home by 10 ½ lengths.

Roman later sealed a double in the tenth and final event, again for Nunes, aboard Playfair (3-2), who dug deep to win by half a length.

Among the emerging talents, Tyrese Anderson, a 2024 graduate of the Jamaica Racing Commission Riding School, showcased his promise in race five. He timed his run aboard Giant Vigorous (11-1), trained by Rowan Mathie, to perfection, winning the four-furlong straight by a neck.

Fellow claimer Demar Williams, of similar standing, matched the feat in race six, steering Manny Slam (9-5) for Patrick Lynch to a well-judged victory over six and a half furlongs.

Veteran reinsman Ian Spence relied on his deep well of experience to guide Shine For Me (4-5), trained by Paul Swaby, to a half-length win in race seven over the five-furlong round course.
